Amongst my siblings, none of us is shorter than 5’10. My sister is dating a man who is 5’6. They’re so cute together, but I felt so bad when I first met the guy because I wasn’t expecting him to be that short. So I opened the door and looked right over the poor fella.
The adoption fee at my shelter is $150 for dogs. Dogs are chipped, fixed, and up-to-date on vaccines. The day my wife and I adopted our guy, they were taking a hundred bucks off the adoption fee for large dogs. We walked in expecting to adopt a small dog, but the one we wanted to meet was adopted out and left ten minutes before we got there. So we went and looked at the other dogs. And then we stumbled across this big guy in the back of his cage, head cocked to the side, ears way too big for his head, not making a sound. My wife tells the staff she wants to meet him. We spent a whole 90 minutes trying to coax him out from under chairs. He was terrified.
Naturally, we took him home. And here he is an hour after getting there.
He stayed under my desk for the next three days.
He goes to the park once or twice a day, daycare once a week, and was in weekly group training for four months. He is so so so much more confident now. It’s been just the most rewarding thing watching him come out of his shell.
Bonus: Here he is a couple weeks ago being murdered to death by one of the puppies at the park.
We’ve had him for about a year. He turns 2 in a few months.
My great-grandmother just died this year at 100 years old. She was still driving after 90, and she was perfectly competent at it in the farm town where I grew up. Her daughter, on the other hand, is a horrible driver. I mean, shaky on the wheel, stabby on the pedals, and just looking everywhere but forward. I’d be amazed she hasn’t been involved in some horrible wreck except for the fact that she rarely leaves the house. Being 80 will do that to you, I suppose.
I will be watching a three hour video essay, get distracted, read posts on Lemmy, then go back to my video 15 minutes later. I realize I have no idea what was said in the last 15 minutes so I have to back up to the last point I definitely know I wasn’t distracted. It will take me ten hours to watch that video.
For those who don’t know, Martian solar eclipses suck compared to ours. The near equal relative size of the sun and moon to Earth is why we get such awesome eclipses.

Am I the only one who has to do like 12 of these in a row before my humanity is recognized? Beyond mildly inconvenient, it’s downright annoying now.
