And this is why lemmy will never get close to what reddit was. On top of the cumbersome registration process and difficulty of navigating the fediverse for the non-tech people, there is also the issue of de-federation and censorship. This is no better then reddit unfortunately. It makes me sad, this really seemed like a good idea, but the implementation is so poor.

People were saying it won’t matter what instance you choose, everything is federated and you choose what you want to see, but clearly the instance admins make that choice for you and it absolutely does matter the instance you choose.

I umderstand your reasoning and I sure hope the fediverse will succeed. I doubt the normies will come over any time soon, but that is not really a bad thing. What is bad tho, is the fragmentation of data over so many instances, duplicate communities not knowing about each other and the censorship some instances apply. I don’t even know how some of these will get fixed or if they will ever, as they are core part of a decentralized architecture. I miss infinity tho, eternity for lemmy worked for a while but it’s no longer maintained :(

To ensure your unecrypted data(which is rare these days) is not clear-text in an untrusted network such as public wifi.

So what exactly do you think a russian citizen can do to opose the war? Are you aware of the people protesting with blank peaces of paper being taken away? Or even high ranking people “falling from the balcony”

Do you also think that North Koreans support and enjoy their way of living?

There is a long way from not having much choice in oposing something to actually supporting it…

No different than the Amazon Echo devices, Google Assisstant hardware and other such devices being sold at a loss just to squeeze all that juicy data.

And people willingly put these spyware always on mic devices in their homes.

We need more awareness on privacy…

A fetus and a baby are not exactly the same thing, especially only a month in.

So where do you go for tech advice, niche hobbies and obscure activities?

When you put out photos of yourself on the internet you should expect anyone to find them and do whatever they want to them. If you aren’t expecting that, then you aren’t educated enough on how internet works and that’s what we should be working on. Social media is really bad for privacy and many people are not aware of it.

Now if someone took a picture of you and then edited it without your consent, that is a different action and it’s a lot more serious offense.

Either way, deepfakes are just an evolution of something that already existed before and isn’t going away anytime soon.

Usb is a carrying digital signals for the most part while headphonea are analog. So you have 2 options:

  1. Implement some janky non-standard analog audio in some usb alternate mode that will only work with some devices
  2. Add a digital to analog converter in the plug itself, which is more complex and expensive

Both options prevent you from chanrging while using headphones unless you use a splitter or wireless charging which is not ideal

3.5 mm may not be the king, but it’s extremly simple and fairly robust and has little to no disatvantages except for wireless headphones sales ofc. You don’t have to charge these heqdphones, you don’t have to worry about losing one of them.

Wireless headphonwa have their uses, I doubt they benefit the majority of people tho.
