Price doesn’t matter if it’s cloudy like most winters with barely any sun and the wind is not blowing. Solar also won’t work at night and energy storage is crap, batteries are very much not renewable. Of course there is reversible hydro plants but these can’t be used everywhere and are a disaster for local ecosystems.

Everyone is acting like renewables will fix everything… They won’t. The only thing that can replace fossil fuels right now is nuclear, which is also not renewable, but at least we have plenty of fuel for it.

Not all nuclear plants are the same. Some can use nuclear waste as fuel. Others are small and modular which allows them be turned on and off as needed and also be deployed easier and cheaper. We need solutions sooner, rather than later. Nuclear tech is here now, storage for renewables still needs more time to refine and streamline.

You can get thin clients for much less than that… Better performance if needed, similar power efficiency for similar loads, they sometimes bring storage, power supply and ram and you don’t generate more e-waste as these are already being thrown out by many big companies every few years.

The only reason to go for the PI is if you really need the GPIO, the tiny form-factor and even then there are cheaper alternatives with similar or better spevs.

I got a thermostatic shower mixer from ikea and it’s awsome. Just set your preffered temp and it will make sure it stays that way. It wasn’t even that expensive. I wish more people knew about it.

Europe is not one homogenous continent. Here in Europe where I am they are not common, and I’ve been to at least 2 other countries here in Euorpe where these mixers were not common.

And this is why lemmy will never get close to what reddit was. On top of the cumbersome registration process and difficulty of navigating the fediverse for the non-tech people, there is also the issue of de-federation and censorship. This is no better then reddit unfortunately. It makes me sad, this really seemed like a good idea, but the implementation is so poor.

People were saying it won’t matter what instance you choose, everything is federated and you choose what you want to see, but clearly the instance admins make that choice for you and it absolutely does matter the instance you choose.

When you put out photos of yourself on the internet you should expect anyone to find them and do whatever they want to them. If you aren’t expecting that, then you aren’t educated enough on how internet works and that’s what we should be working on. Social media is really bad for privacy and many people are not aware of it.

Now if someone took a picture of you and then edited it without your consent, that is a different action and it’s a lot more serious offense.

Either way, deepfakes are just an evolution of something that already existed before and isn’t going away anytime soon.

Usb is a carrying digital signals for the most part while headphonea are analog. So you have 2 options:

  1. Implement some janky non-standard analog audio in some usb alternate mode that will only work with some devices
  2. Add a digital to analog converter in the plug itself, which is more complex and expensive

Both options prevent you from chanrging while using headphones unless you use a splitter or wireless charging which is not ideal

3.5 mm may not be the king, but it’s extremly simple and fairly robust and has little to no disatvantages except for wireless headphones sales ofc. You don’t have to charge these heqdphones, you don’t have to worry about losing one of them.

Wireless headphonwa have their uses, I doubt they benefit the majority of people tho.
