Summary
Following Donald Trump’s election victory, women are experiencing a surge in misogynistic harassment online, with phrases like “your body, my choice” trending as men taunt women about reproductive rights.
The phrase, co-opted from feminist slogans, reflects heightened hostility, with reports of threats on platforms like TikTok and X/Twitter.
This backlash arises as Trump’s administration, alongside VP-elect JD Vance, raises concerns about potential federal restrictions on abortion.
Even without a federal ban, existing state laws have already limited access to reproductive care, contraception, and increased maternal health risks.
Im sure some of this is real. But i wonder how much of this is actually foreign state actors. We have a bunch of countries working overtime trying to destabilize the U.S. right now.
This and the “lefties” increasingly calling for another insurrection. Definitely a lot of foreign state actor influencing the emotion right now.
I think we should absolutely consider foreign actors as the likely seed for some of these flashy, rage-bait stories. Russia’s primary goal since 2015 has been to keep us from trusting one another, and I expect them to ramp up messaging to leftist groups over the next few months. We’re uncertain, isolated, and afraid, and that makes us likely targets for cultural wedge disinformation.
Points from Foundations for Geopolitics (basically the current russian playbook)
In the Americas, United States, and Canada:
Russia should use its special services within the borders of the United States and Canada to fuel instability and separatism against neoliberal globalist Western hegemony, such as, for instance, provoke "Afro-American racists" to create severe backlash against the rotten political state of affairs in the current present-day system of the United States and Canada. Russia should "introduce geopolitical disorder into internal American activity, encouraging all kinds of separatism and ethnic, social, and racial conflicts, actively supporting all dissident movements – extremist, racist, and sectarian groups, thus destabilizing internal political processes in the U.S. It would also make sense simultaneously to support isolationist tendencies in American politics".[9] The Eurasian Project could be expanded to Central and South America.[9]
I’m definitely still somewhat in denial, starting from about 2015. Most of this can’t be real, right? My fellow Americans can’t really want this, can they? I understand Trump likes attention and running a sweet scam, but he can’t actually want to be president, right?
I’m so happy I switched to an instance that blocks grad, ml and hex, I can’t imagine the shitshow it should be for those that still want to tolerate at least hex.
I’m on lemmy.cafe for now… so far so good, but I’m always up to jumping ship if I have to, I usually delete my content once per week so I have nothing to lose anyway (I’m still icky about Lemmy not permanently deleting someone’s content and just hidding it).
I very much look forward to the increase in mortality rates among men. Married and otherwise.
Lots of Goodbye Earl energy flying around and I love it.
America elected an Incel-in-Chief, so that’s not really surprising.
The alternative was apparently not inspiring enough to vote for (/s). You know, someone who isn’t that.
(I voted gladly for Harris)
Yes, because Americans are idiots who think that they have to vote for someone they like rather than STOP A FASCIST DICTATOR.
Jesus Christ.
Enjoy never having your vote count again.
People at my spouse’s workplace were high-fiving each other on Wednesday. This country is just a goddamn middle school.
Y’all can thank 53% of white women for that btw.
As a 50 year old white woman, I am just afraid that a man will beat me in high school track. That’s the real misogyny.
The only political ad I experienced this year was one saying the Democratic Senate candidate would let boys play in girl’s sports. It was horribly transphobic, even ending in a joke about genitalia, but I can’t help but think it had an effect on the outcome amongst all the women who aren’t smart enough to pair their phone to their car and think NPR uses big words.
white women really need to get their shit together. downright embarrassing
