I wince every time I hear a younger person refer to it as "the late 1900s"

It’s fun fucking with boomers by calling 24 years ago “the turn of the century.”

Back in my day, we joked about “not having done x since the last millenium” or some such shit.

“Millenium” is just so much grander. And still factual.

That was a fun joke for at least a year (depending on whether your friends subscribed to “2000 is the first year of the millennium” or “2001 is the first year of the millennium” or both)

Can we talk about the willenium now?

I was a bouncer when the first kids born in 2000 were allowed into clubs. That hit differently.

I’m in the military, and whenever one of my Airmen tell me that they’re born in 20-- I always have a moment of “…are you even allowed to be here? Did you lie about your age to get in? Do your parents know where you are?!?”

There are people born after 9/11 that can now legally drink. By Christmas, there will be people born after The Return of King was released that can drink.

This gets funny when you apply it to countries outside of the US. There are people born at the start of the Covid pandemic that can legally drink alcohol* in the UK.

*in a home, with parental supervision

The legal drinking age in the UK is 5, so long as you do it on private property (like your home) with permission and oversight from an adult.

I’m 24 and I got carded a couple of weeks ago. Doesn’t happen often, but it was kind of nice

I’m 32 and it happened to me 6 months ago. That ego-boost is still lingering a bit.

I’m almost 40 and still get carded a lot…

Not at bars. They don’t care and haven’t since I was 18. But my chosen place to buy beer has a 100% carding policy regardless of age, so it doesn’t even feel nice. :( I just have my card ready before I get there so they are just like “ooh your totally on top of it!” That feels alright.

About a week ago I got carded for a video game rated M. First time that’s ever happened in my entire life, no joke… I’m still salty about that.

I’m 31 and it happens sporadically, but in the past couple of weeks I had one guy double-take because he figured there was no way I was that old and one lady who gave me a good ol’ “keep doin’ what you’re doin’.”

The ego boost is necessary since my body insists on groaning every time I sit down.

I’m voting tomorrow. First time I will have been ID’d in years!

Same here! Aside for in the local elections a while back.

I’m 42 and it’s hit or miss whether I get carded. A delivery guy was delivering my dog’s prescription and asked me if I was “at least 21”…I was like buddy I’m double that!

I thought i stopped getting id’d when i was 20 something. The. I realised that i just stopped drinking and smoking and there is no more reason to show an id. Now when i buy cook wine or something to drink for my girlfriend i still have to show id. I’m almost 40

I still get carded now at 31

PA there’s plenty of stores that require it to initiate the checkout process. No scan, no checkout.

Funily enough I got barely asked for ID before I hit 18. But had to show it constantly after.
