But an insane president will bluster about things he doesn’t want to actually do (like Canada and Greenland) as a distraction to keep us focused on this nonsense while he raids the government coffers for all the retirement money he can get his grubbly diseased hands on.

Years ago we had the kids at the zoo. My son noticed something and called his little sister over (10 & 8 at the time). He said “look, those kids are about to get in trouble” while pointing at some kids chasing a swan on the other side of a river. Sure enough, their mom noticed and started yelling at them. Which made my kids erupt in laughter like it was the greatest thing.

All valid points and questions.

It was a news article posted in the r/Wisconsin sub about the kid who killed his parents and plotted to start a violent, extreme right-wing revolution. The headline said something like “Wisconsin teen killed parents and planned on killing the President.” In the first paragraph it said “…he murdered his parents, and planned to do something even more sinister.” There were a lot of posts questioning that sentence, (like, “why is that more sinister?”) and I replied to one of them saying “It isn’t, it is the lesser of two evils.”

That comment got removed (and I think a LOT of others in the thread) and I got a three day suspension for advocating violence. Calling it evil is not advocating for it. It was brought on by an auto-mod, and the appeal was denied a little too quickly for me to believe it was actually seen by a real human, as they claim.

A very long time ago I was a stupid young man. I got a little drunk and ended up putting my friend into a coma for a week (on snowmobiles). That was the last drop I ever drank. It’s been over 25 years, but I will never forget how invincible I felt, and how foolish that feeling feels every time I think back on it. Don’t mess around with this shit. Like ever.

Most of us are either completely deluded or utterly crushed by the collapse of our entire system of government. We know this is corrupt, and we want to organize to bring it to an end. But we have so many checks and balances that even if we all marched today with pitchforks and torches it wouldn’t effect any real change without burning down every police station, city hall, state house, and the federal buildings. All while hoping the military doesn’t show up and now us down with their weaponry. All the whole knowing that there has been a sharp rise in the popularity of police using violence and death as a deterrent.

In short, we know, and we can’t see any way out of this mess. It wasn’t supposed to be possible, and looking back we all saw it coming. But we were just dismissed as alarmists every time we spoke up and we are surrounded by morons who think this is the best thing that has ever happened to this national.

Bleach, actually. A small amount of bleach added to spoiled milk makes it taste brand new. The government actually suggested this in a few countries for a while.

Plaster in flour was common enough that after the miller, the middle men, and then the baker all added a cut, there were loaves being sold with less than 20% flour in them. The result was mass malnutrition.

Also, and this is a spicy one but backed by basic economics, regulations are a required element to capitalism. The notion that deregulation is pro capitalism is a misinterpretation of the idea that markets are self regulating. A free market is one that is free of corruption and unfair business practices. Which cannot exist without regulations and the enforcement of those regulations. All our current economic woes are the result of straying away from proven economic theory (mostly deregulation) to the right allowing the corruption of the marketplace and emergence of a strong oligarchy.
