House sizes have also ballooned. The average home size in 1949 was ~900 sq ft, whereas a new home now is ~2500 sq ft. It was still cheaper, but those homes prices are for a lot less house than people are imagining.

There are many places in the US with the density of Europe or Asia. And those are all the places trains are being built.

Canadian banks definitely could use the competition. But I wish we nurtured markets with many smaller competitors in this country instead of big oligopolies.

The critic rating is better than the audience rating. I’ve never seen a film with a high critic rating that didn’t have something worthwhile about it. But I’ve seen a lot of audience hits that were garbage.

Seems simple enough to guard against to me. Fact is, if a human can easily detect a pattern, a machine can very likely be made to detect the same pattern. Pattern matching is precisely what NNs are good at. Once the pattern is detected (I.e. being asked to repeat something forever), safeguards can be initiated (like not passing the prompt to the language model or increasing the probability of predicting a stop token early).

“Handing out public money”? So if we increase funding of healthcare or education, are politicians not allowed to talk about that either? Is it less icky if you tell people they got a tax cut, as conservatives do? This is just nonsense. You may as well say that progressivism is icky to talk about.

I don’t understand. Can someone explain this to me?

This is so poorly reasoned, and so obviously aligned with right wing interests, that I genuinely wonder if this post is the work of a hostile foreign operative.

The woman in this meme is a darling of the right wing, a North Korean defector who claims “wokism” is more oppressive than a dictatorship. A thought so stupid, you wonder how right wingers could possibly believe it. How did a meme this bad get so many upvotes, if not without massive vote manipulation?

What the hell. Can people please cancel en masse already? Why are consumers putting up with this? The price increases stop once it’s not profitable anymore.

I like the article, but red tape means pointless or needlessly complicated bureaucracy. Doesn’t apply to just any regulation.
