Oh please fuck right off with this apologist bullshit.
I don’t care what people think, and it wouldn’t matter if I did, as long as they keep their treasonous sympathies in their own head.
The moment they voice it or act on it, then it becomes expression. And freedom of expression does not extend to treasonous or seditious speech or action, as it’s defined in the criminal code.
And anyway, where freedom of expression applies, it only protects against government suppression or legal repercussions. It has nothing to say about me making their lives miserable and making sure everyone knows they’re treasonous Yank sympathizers and just generally untrustworthy pieces of shit. And these people know that which is why they rarely make their views known publicly.
Well that, and they know that if they out themselves they’ll be the first up against the wall if shit gets ugly.
Not really clear where your position is, but I will make my position clear: We all see where right wing populism ends up just by looking south of us. It’s a disaster. Copying that in this moment is outright idiocy. Picking the right wing populist who has never been on the right side of an issue and who mimics the exact policy beats of the Republicans is a surefire way to go down the same path. We need to tell the Conservatives to drop their culture war crazies, stop fighting against experts, stop trying to remove rights from people, and focus on real solutions to real problems.
Goddamn right we should. Take the French up on the offer to build the Rafale here. Or the Swedes. And get a few demo units for short term.
Fuck 'em on any cancellation fees too. Consider it partial compensation for the ridiculous trade war.
This makes me unreasonably angry.
Any assumption of good faith discussions with her or her supporters should be abandoned. In my mind this cements them as outright traitors. We need to kick American oil interests out of our country, immediately. This is what they have wrought. I don’t give a dry fuck what Smith, the UCP and all the other Alberta separatists think of this proposal. They should be considered criminals and treated accordingly.
Frankly the Conservatives had better come out strong against this, or they will forever be the party of treason to their country. This is inexcusable. I don’t care what you think about policy…if you believe this is okay, you can shut the fuck up about what you think is good for the country because you have no interest in the country itself.
Why bother paying anything? Let it go to court. Threatening annexation should fall under some kind of hostilities clause, national security clause, or force majeure clause. Anyway who’s going to collect?
The US government can pay MD Lockheed, they’re the ones who threatened annexation.
Edit… Fixed above, not sure why I had MacDonell Douglas on my mind…strange substitution for a company that no longer exists under that name.
Let the southern bastards freeze in the dark…not permanently, just a brief period, followed by an export tax. Cut power once in March, then again throughout the NBA playoffs in April.
At this point we should do this whether or not Trump reverses course. Make it clear there is nothing he can do to avoid it.
I’m sick of this market fuckery back and forth. I’m convinced he’s trying to depress the Canadian dollar and the value of Canadian companies and industries, so that oligarchs in the US can buy them up. It’s a hostile corporate takeover of our country. Fuck him, we need to go hard - permanent tariffs as long as Trump is in office…and we need legislation to ensure 51% Canadian ownership of strategic resources, as well as no American investment right now. If necessary, we need to nationalize strategic resources and industries.
What we don’t need is a fucking tax break for the rich. We’re on a war footing right now and our leaders need to accept this. The people have largely accepted it.
If you’re serious, start looking for companies hiring up here. As I understand it’s not easy, even for economic class immigrants, but I work in tech and I work with many immigrants (albeit not usually from the US, but it’s a different world now). Mind you - please look carefully into the financial impacts as it is a change from the US. Salaries are lower and taxes generally higher, which may or may not be offset in your context in other ways (healthcare a big one, income tax deductions, etc.) But many people, myself included, prefer Canada regardless of the reduced compensation. It’s not always about money.
You can’t spell hatred without red hat.
(I can’t take credit for this, I saw this comment on this same story elsewhere, and I thought it was so obvious that I can’t believe it isn’t more widespread)
The problem is that something is missing and it’s being filled by angry reactionaries and right wing grifters who prey on the particular insecurities of young men, specifically insecurities around masculine values.
What’s missing is a foundational framework for understanding the male experience as distinct yet coequal to feminist theory. A framework that seeks to promote a balanced, respectful dialogue by articulating unique structures, values, and challenges faced by men, in order to offer a lens through which male identity, struggle, and transformation can be understood on their own terms, while upholding - acknowledging - the progress and insights of feminism.
These men feel like they don’t have purpose or identity. They need a framework, but unfortunately efforts to define and build such a framework are often hijacked by extremists that just hate women and minorities. Like we see now.
The problem is that there is a not-insignificant number of people that want the US to annex Canada.
In the US, about 15% of Trump voters would support annexation of Canada, even if Canada didn’t want it. That’s about 1 in 7.

The disturbing thing is that about 18% of Canadian Conservatives would support annexation. That’s almost 1 in 5. Most of us know five Conservatives, so chances are you know someone who is essentially a traitor. I think Conservative supporters need to be aware that this is the company they keep.
