If we got rid of all the oligarchs, weā€™d barely have anyone left.

The measure at issue is known as the ā€œoutbound investmentā€ provision. We have heard for years about the problem of manufacturing businesses shipping jobs overseas to China, with its low worker wages and low environmental standards. China typically forces businesses wanting to locate factories in its country to transfer their technology and intellectual property to Chinese firms, which can then use that to undercut competitors in global markets, with state support.

This paragraph is dripping with liberal hypocrisy on so many levels.

You sir, have added absolutely nothing to the conversation. This post is a waste of space.

I bet I can waste more space in better faith and somehow be both more informative while contributing even less to the conversation!

That motherfuckin defines ā€œadding to the conversationā€

Instead of snark how bout ya be embarrassed for christmasā€™ sake? Just this one time.

Can you explain what you mean? Is the US known for using this tactic? I guess having backdoors in tech comes to mind.

1: Continued reliance on Chinese manufacturing

2: Poor wages are something liberalism absolutely gags for. Unions fought against it and liberals betray them every chance they get.

3: Undercutting markets with your tech lead built on equal parts intellectual theft and brain drain is literally the American system.

Those are the angles I read anyways.

The sad part is, that allowing Elon to export ā€œFull Self Drivingā€ or whatever other technology to China wonā€™t even help Tesla that much, and will even harm the company in the long term:

The Chinese will just copy/steal the technology, because all foreign investment is through joint ventures with local corporations, and give it to their domestic manufacturers, like they did and continue to do with all other offshored production that winds up in their hands.

As a recent spate of articles about GM, Honda and Nissan, tells us, the Chinese domestic manufacturers now own 60% market share.

Teslaā€™s market share in China has dropped in nearly half over the last 3 months from 9/24 - 12/24, from 6.43% to 3.39%, and that was already down from 9% in 2023.

No, you donā€™t understand. FSD canā€™t be copied because itā€™ll be entirely server side, and hosted in the USA!

Hope your ping times donā€™t spike while making a left turn in a busy intersection.

Bit off topic maybe but isnā€™t Teslas self-driving setup the worst of all implementations? Iā€™m no expert but i thought the cars only used cameras and other companies were closer to full autonomy (though none have achieved it)

FSD is less reliable compared to say Googleā€™s Waymo. GMā€™s Cruise gave up on autonomous driving

Chinaā€™s dubious state media, says their autonomous robotaxis are quite safe, and theyā€™re rolling out fleets of them in major cities already

But Iā€™m sure that bits and bobs in Teslaā€™s FSD systems have some value to someone.

FSD isnā€™t the leader in the market anyways and faces significant problems right now because they abandoned radar to focus on cameras.

So China likely already has that techā€¦

Itā€™s called an ITAR violation, and itā€™s probably more than just EV parts.
