Summary
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that 43,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died and 370,000 have been injured since Russia’s invasion began, marking a rare admission of the conflict’s toll.
He also claimed 198,000 Russian soldiers have been killed, though casualty figures from both sides remain unverified.
The update comes amid heightened fighting, with Russia suffering record monthly casualties in November.
Talks with French President Macron and U.S. Trump focused on a potential peace deal, with Zelensky emphasizing the need for international guarantees to secure lasting peace against Russian aggression.
Goddammit, it’s just not right. I know we (the west) do a lot already to help Ukraine. But honestly we need to do more. Ukrainians are fighting for their right to merely exist!! The Ukrainians do not deserve this, and we need to do everything we can to stop Russia. They are doing harm all over the world, and if the Russian federation collapses from losing the war, we get rid of Russia undermining everything everywhere else.
Slava Ukraini
I don’t understand why we don’t put troops in cities and say fight away from civilians or commit an act of war against our soldiers
Historically that hasn’t gone well.
And at what point do you hand a city over? If the Ukrainians lose the ground around it, are you going to try and do an enclave? Or does it get handed over? What’s the actual goal? Protecting civilians or protecting Ukraine? Because militarily cities are fantastic defensive ground, requiring years to fully occupy if they’re properly contested. So you’d also be taking away some great defensive terrain.
Because they don’t want to actually go to war. Russia would bomb the cities as normal, and some of those troops would get injured/killed, but a retaliatory attack by any member of NATO would be viewed as an offensive, and void of article 5 needing to be enacted or followed. If one did use retaliatory strikes Russia would cry about being the victim like always.
The reason UN troops were not there to do such was because Russia has the ability to veto them stepping in. That took place in February 2022
Ukranian lives are a cheap way to fight US proxy wars.
Roger Waters was right from the beginning. Fuck Bojo and Biden for boycotting the EU’s attempt at peace. Fuck Putin for invading.
Nah it’s more like they are trying to step on our toes, while we are punching them in the face.
Europe as a whole is spending less than 1% of GDP to support Ukraine, and Russia is beginning to collapse, while Europe barely feel anything.
I really feel with Ukraine, but Europe is fine.
If more people defaulted to always ask “qui bono” when these things happen, manufacturing consent would be much harder.
Russian economy is in shambles, Ukraine itself is in shambles, the EU is in shambles. Meanwhile, the US averted a gigantic crash when the insane investments in fracking would yield 0 returns plunging the entire economy in a recessive spiral. Luckily, somehow, the price of US fracked gas is now competitive in Europe, and the biggest EU hawks for war, Poland, just so happened to have the most convenient LPG terminal in the north right on time to transit US gas into Europe. I just wish the yanks and the orks would commit to fight in alaska amongst themselves and leave the rest of the world in peace. Grow a pair, fight elsewhere.
I’m Finnish and haven’t seen this “EU in the shambles” you speak of. It’s as if you are repeating some silly propaganda.
and the biggest EU hawks for war, Poland
Yup, definitely their gas terminal and not their geographical proximity to Russia, a nation that has repeatedly subjugated them. Get a fucking grip.
If the US is behind all of this, why does Putin keep playing straight into the US hands and destroying Russia?
Bullshit, Roger Waters is crazy, and he claims Russia was provoked to invade, which is completely insane.
I love(d) Pink Floyd, but Roger Waters has lost it, and is only parroting Russian propaganda. It’s really sad.
Roger Waters, Richard Sakwa, John Mearsheimer, Jeffrey Sachs, Kissinger (Rest in Piss), all known Russian agents full of Russian propaganda and, of course, insane people. Who needs academic research and correct predictions by Mearsheimer and Sachs, years before the invasion, when a hate boner from a black and white manufactured consent story is much easier to digest… We should ask Victoria Nuland how it’s going and how her selected rulers of Ukraine have done.
I don’t know the other names, but I’ve listened to Mearsheimer speak on the issue and it all sounds very logical given the premise. Recalling from memory, the premise was something along the lines of NATO neighbors being an existential threat to the country. I’m not well versed in geopolitics, so I’m wondering if anyone has any arguments for or against this? All I have to work with is that this looks consistent with Russia’s invasion of Georgia/Ukraine and how China continues to prop up North Korea.
It’s beyond discouraging to think that so many people are dying just because a little sociopath is attempting to compensate.
And it’s not like russia is doing any better either. 198k dead. The saddening part is, due to state sponsered news, a LARGE portion of russians SUPPORT the war. Somehow thinking it’s Ukraine’s fault for existing. They call Ukraine nazis, despite being led by a jew. They use the fact that Ukraine has a large russian speaking populace as justification to reunite. That’s LITERALLY a page out of Hitler’s playbook.
It just saddens me that so much death and destruction must come just to appease one man, and I use the word lightly, who doesn’t even give one shit about his own citizens.
And now Trumps “peace deal” is basically going to be “give russia everything”
You won’t have heard of the Donbas People’s Militias or the Donetsk People’s Republic, because it easier to think of it in terms of goodies and baddies .
We’ve heard of them. Funny how these “militias” ended up with advanced weapon systems, like the Buk they used to shoot down a commercial airliner, nearly immediately after Russia illegally annexed Crimea. Both Donetsk and Luhansk voted overwhelmingly in favor of Ukrainian independence in 1991.
