I feel like the Wii U is gonna have a resurgence in popularity one day much like the GameCube, as an underappreciated console in its time. The Gamepad is a pretty weird controller, but the console had some pretty solid games for it. Then again, Nintendo did port most of those solid titles to the Switch, so it may not happen.

I dunno, with that controller, I kinda expect it to die completely at some point. I was supposed to fire that controller up every few months for a bit to keep the battery good, but it’s been sitting for years now with only maybe a couple times that I’ve used it. I liked the concept, personally, but fuck electronics that don’t have batteries designed to be easily replaced.

But the gamepad battery is easily replaced? Easier than on a Nintendo Switch or Switch Pro Controller for sure.

The mod scene for the Wii u is pretty comprehensive. They have every console in Nintendo history up to the Wii u playing and stable. That includes DS and 3DS games with the second screen working on the tablet controller. It’s a beast of a machine honestly.

Hang on, 3DS too? Is that emulation, a compatibility layer, just streaming from a 3DS, or what?

I am mistaken, 3ds emulation isn’t here yet. But it’s a heavily requested subject in the mod community. You can moonlight stream from a PC to a Wii u and I imagine you could get citra running that way with some finagling.

I feel like it had far less of an expansive library than the GC.

I’m actually pretty salty that they ported over all the good titles. It was kind of a slap in the face to everyone that invested in a wii u. It’s the only console to not get a unique zelda release (you can’t convince me that they didn’t delay breath of the wild specifically so they could do a dual release). Then most of the other games were low quality because they didn’t want to waste money on the few people that did buy a wii u (Smash bros didn’t have anything resembling an adventure mode). Then, to top it off, they ported all of the good games over to switch anyways.

It’s pretty cool when hacked. Moonlight for pc gaming. And basically all Nintendo games available to play up to the Wiiu itself.

Still waiting on a Xenoblade Chronicles X port to drop.

That and Wind Waker HD are the two heavy hitters that are still locked to the platform, there’s a handful of others like Twilight Princess HD, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Yoshi’s Wooly World, Star Fox Zero, though porting some of those might not be possible without completely altering the gameplay.

It would’ve been nice if they kept Splatoon 1 alive somehow, but there’s zero chance of that when they already have two sequel games on switch.
