Oh yeah, keep these coming!

How do you paint these guys? Do you use a normal brush, air brush? Any particular brand paint you like using?

Mostly just brush. I sometimes give em a zenithal through the airbrush. I mostly use Vallejo and ak but that’s just because they’re the paints I bought when first starting out. I have been experimenting with golden so flat range and I like them pretty well.

I was at the game store today and thought about grabbing some AK. I haven’t tried them yet. My only experience outside of cheap craft paints is with Army Painter (their og warpaints and gamemaster lines, specifically). They’re incredibly heavily pigmented, which is nice for brushing, but you have to thin them about as much as craft paints for air brushing. Which on one hand is nice because 5 drops of paint primes a handful of minis, but on the other hand is frustrating to have to mix so much thinner into the paint.

I’m doing a bit of a priming test to see what method gives me the best results for time spent. Do you subscribe to the “always prime black” ideology, or do you prime depending on the intended color scheme? Also, do you rattle can, air brush, or dry brush your primer? I’ve got a few test models that I’ve tried and array of methods and don’t see much of a difference, is there something you’ve noticed while applying additional layers to one method vs another?

Sorry for the bombardment of questions. I just started getting more serious about the hobby and I’m a fan of what you’ve posted so far.

No worries. Happy to help.

I’ve heard good things about army painter but haven’t played with them personally. I would just use what hobby paints you have. When you’re starting out, it’s important to learn what you like and dislike about a paint/range so you can be more informed when buying new stuff. E.g. thinning, sheen, seperation, mixes etc.

Highly pigmented paints are my favorite. Especially ones that thin down well without breaking up. Certain colors lend themselves better than others and speed paints are almost always great for this.

I tend to prime black unless I’m painting something mostly made of flame. I use cheap rattle can primer from the hardware store or monument hobbies primer through the airbrush. My choice of one over the other is mostly weather dependent. I don’t notice any big difference though.

Anyway, feel free to ask whatever else. Cheers!
