I hesitate to say this out loud, but mid-50s and nothing hurts yet, except the migraines I’ve gotten since teenage years.
Knees last if you take care of them. Back lasts if you take care of it and are lucky, and don’t get fat, and are lucky, and don’t work a physical job, and are lucky.
Stretch. Exercise. Don’t overeat.
The more active you are, the greater the likelihood that you’ll sustain serious injuries at some point. Those injuries go on to become chronic pain as you get older. I was very athletic and very active when I was younger, and I feel it now. I’m still active, and staying active helps those old injuries to hurt less, but they still always hurt.
You mean me doing karate 3 times a week which has given me a cracked rib, a herniated disc and countless of bruises and minor injuries might leave me with chronic pain? I don’t believe you!
Heh, coincidentally, many of my injuries are from Kung Fu. Many more are from riding dirt bikes, and the rest are from recklessness or just plain accidents. Surprisingly I have no lasting injuries from soccer, baseball, football, track, cross-country, rock climbing, or outdoorsmanship. I guess organized sports are a little safer than more extreme sports.
Its not age as much as your weight.
I can always tell when I’m gaining weight because my knees will start hurting.
Not just weight. It’s lack of exercise. I’m 41 and my knees and back are fine even after a stint in the army. Gotta keep using those muscles and joints if you want to use them when you’re older.
I recently got a balance board and it has really done a number on my ankles, legs, and core strength.
It is insane how degraded your ancillary muscles get from a sedentary lifestyle
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is also a really good full body workout
Full body workout, yes, but also a really good stretch when you want to let the other guy have his fun.
One of previous jobs worked me so hard my leg hurts when a storm is coming. This happened in my early 20s
As a millenial almost 40… Its not that bad if you do something daily, some yoga everyday can be enough
I’m at the stage where if I sit around too much it starts to hurt, but if I make healthy choices and exercise everything is still fine. It’s like my body requires healthy choices. Wasn’t like that before.
Zoomer here, how do I claim my knees’ warranty? They’ve started hurting AT LEAST a decade too soon.
Gen X and Boomers looking at Millennials… “I wish my knees and back were in that good of shape.”
