WASHINGTON, May 2 - Donald Trump signed an executive order that aims to cut funding to news outlets NPR and PBS, the White House said, marking the U.S. president’s latest attempt to use federal funding as leverage against institutions he does not view favorably.

The order instructs the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which distributes funding to PBS and NPR stations, to “cease direct funding” to them, according to the order’s text released by the White House late on Thursday. It labeled the news outlets as partisan and biased.

The news outlets that can’t lie by law. Trump hate the truth and this is one way to try and suppress it. Soon it will be War is peace, freedom is slavery and ignorance is strength.

What’s the point of having a congress if the president just signs executive orders?

They just did a thing about this on NPR. I believe they only get 7% of their funding from the government so they aren’t done for but they will need the public help. It might be more than the public can currently give right now.

NPR has given way too much support to far right commentary since 2016, that I’ve been tracking. Giving platforms to conspiracy theories, alternative medicine, or extreme right wing ideologies equal to factual positions. Even permitting right wing nuts to spew their ‘GA just needs to find ## thousand votes!’ lies as if it’s just a point of view on the facts, and not an outright lie.

I say all this to say, they’re already trying their hardest to appear unbiased, by putting extreme right wing lies on the same table as center or left facts. Now with losing 5-10% of their funding you absolutely will see a shift or impact on their reporting.

This is completely true. They overcorrected in an attempt to appear unbiased (so Trump wouldn’t take away their funding), and surprise, he did it anyway.

Yes. Love me some npr but they sane-washed trump for the last 4 years. Especially during the campaign. It had me shouting at my speaker.
