Hi girlss! 💖 I am looking for a new curl iron and there are soooo many options. I. AM. SO. LOST. 😭 Some are super expensive and some super cheap. I don’t want to pay too much but also I don’t want to cheap out

I was wondering if you have any recommendations ! What do you use and would you recommend it? Do you use any heat protection ? If so what? 😇 If you have any other suggestions for curling your hair I am all ears !

I appreciate any suggestion :)

I do not have personal recommendations for curling irons as I don’t use irons, but I will say you want one that has great temperature regulation (so it does not burn your hair which might mean paying more money). I picked up a second-hand dyson blow dryer a while back because of the temperature regulation on it, it never burned my hair but I did feel like it was hot even on low so I had to move it around a lot. You always want to use a heat protection product when using high heat (which curling irons, flat irons, etc. do). It should say it protects up to 400° F, I believe 266° F is the temperature when hair actually burns. I tried the CHI products and liked it, these products will generally have silicone or something else with low thermal conductivities to protect your hair. Look for something made for flat ironing.

I follow lab muffin a lot (this is her article on heat protectants), and it does seem like your hair will still get damaged this way. I use K18 which might help your hair feel less damaged, my hair is just naturally fragile so I use it. My hair is curly, I find that heatless curl methods make it more wavy but I am not sure if they work on straight hair.

What kind of hair do you have?

Mine won’t hold a curl no matter what I use so I’ve given up. I’ve tried them all and unless I fry my hair and use a ton of product (i.e. for a special event) then it will fall flat and just have this awkward flip at the end. Like, not a cute wave or curl under, but like a dated flip out.

Which is to say, I’m commenting so I can come back and find advice too 😂

For the record, I have fine, pin-straight hair that isn’t treated. Perfect for that limp, drowned-rat-in-the-summer look 💀

In case you are interested in this topic: This likely has nothing to do with fine or very straight hair but with the porosity of your hair.
I have very low-porosity wavy hair and the only shape it keeps is the one it has. Actual curls? No. Straight? Also a no. I also have a hard time dyeing my hair at home and many products just sit on the hair without getting absorbed.
Low-porosity hair means the “scales” of the hair lie very flat. To do anything to your hair you have to lift them with either a lot of heat or chemicals. For example my hair loves hot steam. It’s the only way I get it to absorb any moisture or conditioner.
Does your hair take very long to get wet? Does it float when you put it in water for a while instead of sinking? Then you probably have low-porosity hair. (There are more tests but I’d have to google them)

Hey me!! I paid for professional curls 18 months ago for a night out, within a couple of hours they’d gone flat. Not worth the money although they looked great!

I have mostly straight hair (it tends to curl at the very end). That awkward flip is my default hair right now 😭😂

You can have the hair, but you’ll have to fight Kaity for the curling iron! :P

Does air dry curl cream work for you? That’s been what I do most of the time.
