And nobody seems to bother (or highlight it which would be the job of the commenter)

I just browsed the feed for 20 mins after a month off being sober and don’t miss the disguised instagram feed at all - short videos, meme comments, no old forum experience whatsoever. But thankfully we have that on Lemmy now, so Lemmy try that :)

Btw I didnt even read more than 5 comments total… heres examples:

EDIT: look at how many “people” reply to that stuff - what a sheit show

The paintball one looks like they just copy/pasted Google’s AI response rather than them being an AI themselves. The top one? Yeah, not so much.

I’m sure you can find more examples. I’m already tapped out of that bot factory.

Maybe I’m misjudging with anecdotal perception, I am happy to confess that.

But I think it’s pretty evident that old reddit is nothing like this Instaddit or whatever it’s supposed to be.

Do you still find r-word platform as satisfying? And have you not encountered suspect comments like these at all there?

(I mean even unsuspecting ones could be bots, here too, but let’s at least start cultivating some damage control)

TBH, I unplugged from reddit when they killed the API access.

Not in a long time, and way less since they made this shit AI translation to French. I often find results like that from search for IT stuff and 99% of those “French Reddit conversations” are from AI translation and not French subs.

It looks and feels like cringe translation when you read through the post. I know I can switch back to original English but I hate those results so much that I now avoid the website entirely (while I was still sometimes using it without an account for specific IT answers).

Reddit is completely unusable outside of old.reddit with RES and sticking to niche subs. I only ever use it when I’m extraordinarily bored and out of lemmy content.

I hate going there these days. I’m not sure if it was a frog boil or what but the site now is a shadow of the one I left during the big mod exodus. It’s terrible now, so much less info, user base has devolved, riddled with ads.

I imagine if I was still there all the crap would feel normal but having left, every time I visit now and see what huge changes have been made. Every time i visit the quality of the site has tanked even more.

It really is shit. It’s constant ads, posts dressed up as ads, bots and hysteria. It really is no better than Facebook

Ye, generic feed is absolute shite. Only direct links to some subs might be worth it

Yep, I go for a couple of niche things every few days. That’s it. It’s like fucking Facebook now and that is BAD

Reddit… Let’s not go there, 'tis a silly place.

The commenters on average feel more real on Lemmy, so i’ve been here 2 years plus and hardly needed to look back.

I know what you mean, they just ring true. There’s far less nastiness as well, far fewer people are looking for a fight

I don’t use LLMs, what am I looking for? Bulleted lists?

Bulleted lists, a weird positive tone, unnecessarily professional, a summary or “but you should check with an authority figure” sentence at the end

a weird positive tone
Oh

unnecessarily professional
Oh no

a summary or “but you should check with an authority figure” Oh god no

Bulleted lists
Well, I’m often 3 for 4 on the AI checklist

I’d totally be flagged as AI if I were in academia these days.

Yeah, I kinda was feeling the same way. I also do the numbering and bullet points thing too bc it helps me organize what I’m trying to say as I type, and I prefer it in general when I read longer walls of text bc it helps me stay focused.

Reddit and most of the internet has definitely become just one big hub for advertising, but it’s also led to some cases where I’ve genuinely been left unable to tell If I was talking with a bot, a troll, or even just a human without an agenda who was making an argument in a bot/troll like way to prove their point.

There used to be times where I would start typing something like “what are you 15?” then realize, yeah they probably are 15 so why tf are you arguing with this person? Time to log off.

Now it’s like a possibility of: 15 year old/edeglord, a troll farm paid by a foreign government/ or possibly even my own government, advanced bot, or someone who just has a similar style of writing.

There have definitely been times where it’s left me thinking way too much about the deeper meaning of being human, and the question of free will. That is usually my cue these days that it’s time to log off and touch grass.

So,

  1. trying to be non-snarky
  2. ‘unnecessarily professional’? What’s that; spelling all the words like an adult and avoiding clique-signally kid-pidgin when writing to people I don’t know personally and pretending I want to treat them as also adults?
  3. deferring to experts
  4. bulleted lis-- oh crap

Am I gonna be flagged as a bot every time I write as if the reader’s an adult?

Just add “this is medical advice specifically catered to you” at the end of all messages and you’re safe. Well at least until this becomes the norm and malicious bots get manually adapted to add that too…

This is so frustrating to think about. Maybe we need to start encrypting messages and hand the keys to small communities physically only…

Shhhh stop giving it away. Pretty soon we’re gonna have that garbage here. We probably do and don’t even know it. When bots have become actually convincing… Ugh. The world is shit and I hate it

I see you dislike the way things are going currently. When talking about AI, it is important to note that it also has many exciting positive uses:

  • It can easily recognise spots indicative of cancer.
  • It makes desk workers more productive.
  • It may be used to lessen the burden of parents raising their children.
  • It may promote safety by helping in recognising acts of disorder.

Please remember to always keep an open mind towards the future of AI.
