If you have an Enquirer sub- another article here- https://www.cincinnati.com/story/news/politics/2024/07/23/its-official-ohioans-will-vote-on-whether-to-remove-politicians-from-congressional-and-statehouse-re/74336416007/

I feel like this is a no brainer no matter which way you lean. We should want fair districts and actual representation.

How about this? Every state is a district. 1 state = 1 district.

So, 50 districts…and I guess DC should be a district too, so 51 disticts. And ya know what? Puerto Rico is now the 51st state. And any other territories that are subject to our laws? New states. And thus districts.

And just to piss off republicans, Mexico is now a state. I know they aren’t officially a US territory, but what are they going to do? Say no??? They’re not going to say no. They would never say no…because of the implication.

a 15-member panel of five Republicans, five Democrats and five independents would craft the maps

retired judges would help select

I don’t know if this will be an improvement, unelected officials appointing a panel to decide districts. It does get rid of politicians self serving motivations to redistrict but with no checks in place I feel this will lead to new issues.

If you read the full text of the amendment you’ll see it has a lot of safeguards designed to ensure fair districts.

This is unequivocally an improvement over the current process where legislators get to pick their voters and disenfranchise people.

Note- you have to click the document itself to get the full PDF of it which is 31 pages long.
