Props to the artist for the spot-on character renditions from each game. Lots of effort for a 4-panel comic

The craziest part to me was animal crossing was 2d drawn in.

especially since it’s totally different artstyles, not like terraria and stardew
also the text boxes are accurate!

If any of my parents took any interest in any game I played when I was a kid, I would 100% play that game with them, alas…

My dad used to play some Mortal Kombat with me. Until one time, it was in my early teens, 13 or 14 maybe, I had been playing a lot of it recently and was just whooping his ass. Like 8-0 streak kind of ass beating. So he bet me $20 I couldn’t do it blindfolded.

Well I did, I lost one round but won two to get the match purely off of sound cues and blind luck, and he paid me $20 and then never played a video game with me ever again.

Doesnt seem like it was worth $20 imo

No. No, it really wasn’t. I wasn’t socially aware enough at the time to think to throw the match. But to be fair I didn’t expect my dad to pull such an ultimate rage quit.

My dad told me a story of how my grandpa stopped running against him the moment my dad became faster.

He then proceeded to stop playing chess after i beat him. Like he was making an educational point of it.

I love them both, i know them to be bright intelligent people but i will never understand the idea here. When my kids start to beat me at my own games i know i will be nothing but pride and encouragement. I want them to become better then i ever was, isn’t that a point to be made instead?

At least you got $20. I got yelled after I whooped my dad on fucking Mario Party. Kept calling me egotistic but in hindsight, pretty sure he was protecting.

I’ve had a few opportunities to play Red Alert 2 with my dad. He always obliterated me, I was too much of a turtle player.

There was one time I won against him, but it was pretty obvious to my 14yo ass that he let me. I asked and he just smiled.

I should probably challenge him sometime nowadays

I thought being a gamer meant I was prepared. " No “Get off the Nintendo” or “just pause it” from me I naively thought, “I’ll be able to play all their games and even enjoy the game!” I was such an idiot.

Nothing could have prepared me for the rapid clip “game surfing”. What’s worse, I can remember how to play them all just fine from my own childhood, but it’s the constant in and out of memory that gets me lol

I know what it feels like to be RAM LMAO

I like Animal Crossing and Minecraft.

Perhaps I should try Terreria?

Terraria is kinda like 2D Minecraft but with a longer but more linear progression path instead of being just a more Freeform sandbox. Kinda like some Minecraft modpacks.

Also lots more combat.

I’d say Terraria is more of an RPG than either of the other two, if that matters. Boss fights, gear progression, etc. It’s amazing, but it’s not quite the same. There is still a lot of building creativity space, though, if that’s your jam.

Absolutely. Terraria is far more exploration, arpg.

My friend likes Terraria, and I like Minecraft.

This is because he enjoys gameplay where there is technical progression and objectives. Things to ‘do’ and reasons to get stronger.

I enjoy gameplay where the objectives are mostly just goals I set for myself, and I have freedom for creative expression.

In Minecraft I can spend forever working on aesthetic builds or complex redstone contraptions, whereas once my friend has exhausted all the progression in the game he finds it boring.

Conversely, although Terraria does allow for building and furnishing nice bases/homes, the 2D nature is limiting for me vs 3D and can’t satisfy my desire to build, so I’m not into it.

They day after my wedding, we had an extra ceremony on my minecraft server, which has been running continuously for at least a decade.

I don’t personally play that much anymore but i still consider it my favorite game and i will return to it when life gets me particularly down, its therapy, its home.

I also have a decent amount of co-op hours in terraria… it’s an ok game i guess.

You should try Terraria.

Then get into mods. Calamity is absolutely amazing.

The mod scene is so strong and expands the game so much.

I want to say it’s ok and isn’t amazing, but I now have over 1,000 hours in it. I think I lost the ability to say it isn’t a good game about 900 hours of playtime ago 😅

Terraria is more fun to play but Minecraft is more fun to watch. It’s one of the few games I’ve got hundreds of hours playing solo.

Even if they do stick with one game, it’s hard to keep up. My kid has stuck with Minecraft (when he’s not playing his favorite game: NFS Heat) and he always wants to play Minecraft with me, but every time asks me to join, he’s created a new World and started over, and everything I helped him build in the old world is gone.

I subscribed to a realm! We built in it for a while but then he didn’t like it anymore. Wanted to move on. Now I’m paying for a realm he doesn’t use.
