He also said things about Trump that make me wonder why Trump thinks he’d be loyal.

Wdym? Vance is not loyal to Trump, he is loyal to Thiel from the Heritage Foundation / PayPal Mafia, and Trump only accepts his presence because he got no choice.

Trump is not a free man. He is owned, bought for campaign money. He knew it was prison or president, so he sold the government.

This has been the GOP ticket strat since before Trump. Bush wasn’t masterminding war and invasion. Cheney was in coordination with the oligarchy back then.

The difference is who the billionaires behind the man are. These newly rich tech bros are obviously more aggressive in the abuse of citizens and dismantling of democracy than the old evil billionaires were, who had probably held their positions of power since the times of plantations and railroads.

But I thought we crashed the market in order to bring manufacturing back to the US? It must be hard to be a republican supporter. Every day there’s a new meta you gotta follow like League of Legends.

Vance probably thinks he can communicate policy disagreements in a way that Pence couldn’t as long as he does it by writing it down in places not Twitter.

I don’t know who is going to invest in on-shore manufacturing during a recession. Building materials cost more, tooling will cost more, pay will be higher because of inflation, and customers are tightening their wallets.

AND, Trump is obstructing the few investment incentives that the Biden admin had put in place, because “Biden bad.”

In a way he is correct - the manufacturing jobs we think of - good paying, good benefits, union-protected, etc - aren’t coming back.

Does anyone believe that the MAGA Nazis are going to bring back the old manufacturing model? The entire reason they sent business overseas was to save money. Now that they’ve had a few decades of those fat profits, they want more. If they could only save on the expensive shipping costs, by manufacturing in America, but doing it the same way its done over there.

The new manufacturing model will be Asian-style sweatshops, no unions, low pay (less than minimum wage, if they can get away with it), teen labor, no workplace health/ safety/ environmental protections, mandated long hours, no overtime, no benefits, no sick pay, no paid vacations, no discrimination laws, corporate-friendly labor boards, high income taxes, etc.

We are already seeing a lot of serious discussion of new state laws that will do away with minimum wage, loosen child labor laws, bust unions, etc. They are already getting ready for American sweatshops, and NOBODY is talking about it.

Also, isn’t most of it being automated, even in China?

Automation is the thing that needs more discussion as well. Suppose automation is nearly perfected. Does anyone think these demons will let some kind of post-scarcity economy flourish? I think what they’ll opt for - and some of the broligarchs already “joke” about it now - is that they’ll puzzle over what to do about all the “useless eaters”.

I think automation that reduced the amount of work, combined with sane and moral policies could be a good thing. The way the radicalized right wing broligarchs want to run it - will be hell on Earth for anyone that doesn’t already have massive amounts of capital.

and NOBODY is talking about it

the only thing to talk about is what we’re going to do about it. you think the corporate media is going to address this? and what if they did? the owners are still going to do everything in their power to get away with whatever they want. the answers are simple.

Yes, eventually we have to talk about what to do about it, but before we identify solutions, we have to acknowledge the problem.

The one justification anyone has about this cockamamie tariff folly is that manufacturing will come back to America, and states will be flooded with new, high-paying manufacturing jobs. That’s what people believe, based on their knowledge of past manufacturing models, and the administration is letting them think that.

The media has a responsibility to ask about what this administration wants the new era of manufacturing to look like. Does anyone believe that this administration will set up the new manufacturing environment to favor the workers, or will they set it up only to maximize profits for corporations, at the expense of workers’ rights, safety, and compensation? The problem right now is that nobody in the media is even ASKING that question. Until they do, most Americans won’t even consider that the manufacturing model they think is coming, is only in their imaginations.

Before we start throwing out solutions to questions that nobody is asking, lets focus on the right questions first.
