Read other things; read westerns, read history, read anything that seems interesting, because if you only read fantasy and then you start to write fantasy, all you’re going to do is recycle the same old stuff and move it around a bit.

Either word works. It’s hyper-specific but I would say that most people would say “rung” in reference to the physical part of the ladder while “step” would be the part of the ladder they were on.

I use that layout. Instead of a huge keyboard I use mod layers. Very handy and I prefer it. I get why others wouldn’t.
