Reddit has multiple repeat communities too, they just have different names. Just to take one example, there’s /r/Canada, which got taken over by right wing assholes, /r/metacanada for those same right wing assholes to go full mask off, /r/onguardforthee for the people who didn’t want to put up with the right wing assholes… You get the picture.

The fact that there are multiple overlapping communities with similar purposes can be frustrating, but it also provides layers of redundancy, which is what the fediverse is all about. We’ve been learning a lot of object lessons recently about the problems of putting all your eggs in one basket.

I hope you’re not also using Bitwarden as your password manager. Having your authenticator and your password manager accessible in the same place, with the same account, completely defeats the point of 2FA.

This honestly looks kind of rad. The Junji Ito influences are front and centre in a really good way. Really captures his aesthetic.

Yeah, the whole story behind TempleOS is absolutely buck fucking wild. It is the timecube of operating systems.

IT and biotech research would both collapse without flurries.

Suppressive fire is already an obselete doctrine. That’s why the British army is replacing their machine guns with DMRs (Canadian military may be heading in the same direction).

Turns out turning a motherfuckers head into a fine red mist with a 7.62 tends to make everyone else around them really eager to seek cover. The threat of a well placed shot has a far better suppressing effect than the reality of a bunch of inaccurate fire.

Depends what you’re buying. Here’s the secret;

Norwegian Army M77 boots.

$130 brand new army surplus. Incredibly high quality, genuine leather, indestructible build, totally waterproof (I have literally submerged my foot past the ankle in puddles and not so much as gotten my sock damp) and extremely comfortable.

Secret number two is how you wear them. For proper boots like this you need to a) buy a separate inner sole, and b) go up a half size to allow room for thick boot socks.

With those two things in mind you will have a boot that can tackle anything you throw at it. They’re real leather (and I mean thick, full chap leather) so you will have to break them in. Rub them down constantly with mink oil to keep them moisturized so that they’ll become more flexible. They’ll be uncomfortable at first, but give it time. And once they’re broken in, they’ll basically last the rest of your life if you treat them right.

Am I gonna wear them all the time? Fuck no. Give me a good pair of Vans anyday. But if you want nice boots that last, this is how you get them.

My wife is in the army. This is the watch that soldiers wear; it has every function you need, and absolutely none that you don’t, and it’s cheap as shit so you can afford it on your crappy military pay. It will not give a flying fuck what kind of abuse you put it through, and in a pinch it will probably stop a bullet.

Here’s what I would be looking for;

  • Decent mobile app (more than happy to pay for this if it’s a one time fee)
  • Bonus for a OneNote / Evernote style Android widget. Being able to scroll through and quickly select from my most recent notes in the OneNote widget is really helpful.
  • WYSIWYG editor on mobile and desktop (why in God’s name does every Foss notes app insist I use a markdown language?) with bullet points, numbered lists, bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, and headings.
  • Checklists (as in, ability to add checkboxes to notes)
  • Ability to create an arbitrarily deep folder structure
  • Tags would be nice
  • Import from popular apps like OneNote, Evernote, or Joplin is basically essential at this point. A lot of us have way too fucking many notes to move by hand.
