People that invest $350 + subscription into hiking safety with an inReach don’t hike into the desert with less than a day’s water. They’ve got at least three maps between Garmin, GMaps or iMaps, and the map they’re actually using to navigate, and don’t get lost very often. Even the most basic inReach mini augments phone GPS for positioning and vector in the Garmin app. One has to be damned near under full tree cover or in a horrible thunderstorm for it to fail to send a text. And, they’d have instead pushed the SoS button, which is literally better than 911 outside any city, which is why it’s the gold standard until mountaineering equipment.

I’d bet $5 this group was desperate and trying everything they could think of. They didn’t have an inReach or they’d be alive.

They were poor. Cops don’t need a reason to interact.

If they were poor and not white then they don’t need a reason to beat them.

If they were poor, not white, and legally carrying their firearm, then the cops don’t need a reason to murder.

It doesn’t matter why the interaction started. Law enforcement is never correct to punish an accused in custody.

If Democrats kept their promises we’d have codified Roe, have free healthcare for all, and literally no one would carry student debt but those that haven’t yet had time to graduate.

Here, I’ll do the hard one: Gary Newsom with AOC selling out principles for lifetime admission to the club as VP. If not AOC then another Justice Democrat will go for it. This would short term quickly and easily unify the big tent under a compromise platform with long term certainty of fully neoliberal outcomes. It’s not much different than the last two cycles.

It’d be even easier for Republicans with a dead Trump as a symbol. Give it a shot. Show me you’re worth engaging with.
