A dumb little dystopian science fiction thing with some fun ideas and people who wanted to make a decent movie. Interesting villain, interesting (for the time) female protag. Stuart Gordon rarely disappoints. Several naked penises on new arrival prisoners.

I don’t see how that applies here. He doesn’t really seem to fit the expected profile so being somewhat surprised is appropriate.

Any effect should be immediately obvious, shouldn’t it? If your clothes are still dirty after washing, that’s something you can see/smell/feel. Anything else that your average detergent claims to do is luxury.

Had the same initial reaction, then I gave it a second try and I was in by the end of season 1. I roll my eyes when people say “it gets better after a while” but Lower Decks does take ~5-6 episodes to find itself. (Does Evil AI Jeffrey Combs do anything for you?)
