That expression is being deliberately used to make the time period sound longer. Do you not understand that people will use language in a certain way to make things sound better or worse?

“Just following orders” etc etc.

Why isn’t it “rich people will have 1 yacht rather than 4”?

Rich people will tell you they get the value of money then spend the equivalent of a poor persons wages on a bottle of wine, concert ticket, or a seat at a football game.

The Office means the British version. The American office refers to the American version.
