The sun is going to burn out one day, and we will destroy ourselves far before that, likely within the next century!
Do as much or as little as you want to do.
It’s thrown around often, but few to no one, at least here in the US, truly appreciate and internalize that nothing really matters. If happiness is actually your goal, stop letting other people shame you into hustling. I genuinely pity A types, a bunch of hamsters on a wheel.
Meanwhile my autistic ass wakes up at six and then proceeds to spend the whole day coding something useless or tinkering with my Linux setup until it’s perfect. Which feels great but also like… where did my day go?
Get yourself someone who tells you that you deserve a break.
I’ve fallen into this habit way too launch on weekends. It’s been too long since I got anything done and the chores are piling up.
I do have a couple partial excuses though, that at least shows my priorities right:
- My younger kid keeps wanting to do all day activities with me. He’s going into his senior year in high school so this is the last few precious moments before he leaves the nest
- I got a smoker! Whether it’s for my kids memories or just my own skill/hobby, I might spend an entire Saturday making dinner. It’s not just the slow cooking, but every side and the dessert are both more ambitious and go on the smoker. For example: for the next meal I have a macaroni salad recipe that starts with : “warm up the smoker and preheat a cast iron skillet…”
