Is there any specific song, lick or pattern you‘re working on? I‘m a bit out of my practice routine but would like to get back into it with fresh ideas. Ever since I‘ve been playing in a band, practice turned somewhat into stale song repetition, if any.
Haha, still the same first noob song tab! I’m getting there! I’ve figured it out and converted to frets that are easier to play (genuine question, is there a reason he preferred to use fret 7 and 5 when 2 and open are much easier? Or am I weird for finding the lower frets easier?). It’s just a case of practising and hoping I don’t get fed up of the song from having to listen to it so much.
And I’m still persisting with The Zephyr Song!
(Shh, it makes sense to me)
Nice! Gotta listen to that song for a change. I think it’s all about personal preference and style/technique. I usually stick to the higher frets (I.e. fifth fret vs open string) because that allows me to do stuff like slides and bends. Also feels more natural to me to mute a string by taking it off the fret vs floating above the open string. But that’s just me I guess? Haha
After half-assing my slap technique for the last year I’ve decided to actually start doing it properly. Lately I’ve been working on American Life by Primus, and Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) by Sly and the Family Stone.
I’ve been playing Bass on/off for the last 17 years. I’m primarily a Guitarist so it’s been a lot of fun to have to adapt to a different way of playing.
Man I‘ve been Half-assing slap to the point I messed it up on stage once haha! I absolutely need to practice more, but there’s so much other stuff that I keep prioritizing. that Primus song is a cool tune, but the effects kinda throw me off. Would love to hear it dry because I really like bass chords.
