After having used Chat GPT for a while to just check it out, I had decided to not use it due to the high water consumption and me not really needing it for a while. Now that I had discovered the Buy from EU movement and am dual using Reddit and feddit right now, I decided to check out EU made AI solutions and the most promising for me right now is Mistral Le Chat, even though I will probably only use it occasionally just like Chat GPT. I am still glad that I support a european made solution and alternative to not give money, or in this case, revenue from data selling to a literal fascist billionaire…
I started using Le Chat a few weeks ago, also inspired by the Buy From EU initiative.
While I’m missing some creature comforts (memory, projects), the experience is good enough for me to switch. I’ve canceled my Chat GPT subscription because of it. Remember to export your data from OpenAI. It gives you a raw dump of all your conversations and customizations.
I may need to ‘retune’ my prompting because I was getting slightly better responses with o3 for coding. Also a warmer tone in conversation. But it wasn’t enough to stop me from moving over.
I’ve been using it for a few days as well, I honestly don’t notice a difference. I wasn’t a chat gpt power user to begin with. So all of the upsides of switching without any of the downsides, sounds good to me!
I switched as well. Additionally I was only using free gpt, and now have a Mistral subscription. Extra support for a growing EU company and better rates.
I’m going to switch as well, when my subscription on openai is up.
How are mistrals reasoning models?
I use it as well, but keep an eye out for Schmidt.
Who is this Schmidt person you are talking about? I am just asking out of curiosity.
Eric Schmidt. Investor in Mistral, ex-CEO of Google. Asshole with no bottom in sight.
Oh no, that is truly terrible. Still, every company in our capitalist world has at least a few (sometimes literal) corpses in their basements. Trust me on that, I am German…
They also partnered with Microsoft on 26 February 2024
