The Steam winter sales are here, up to the 4rth of January.

What game did you enjoy playing and want to share with the community, and why?

It’s like a mini (or a bit larger) review for the people in the community to discover your loved game, and get it for a smaller price. Also remember to share a link to the store page to help people find the game.

The game must be on sale currently and must not be a free to play game, or what would be point of this post.

The release date doesn’t matter. Neither the sale amount. If you enjoyed the game, it should be shared.

You can put the game type/tags at the beginning of your comment if you wish so, it may help other people.

Please a single game per comment if you post a review.

I’ll start in the comments.

Backpack Hero - Imagine a game like Slay the Spire, but instead of building a deck of cards, you build and pack a backpack and try to get as many synergies out of the random items you can loot and their positioning in the backpack to suit your character’s special abilities and get you through a dungeon successfully. Currently 20% off on Steam. Not extremely difficult but not too easy either. Short rounds, endless replayability, multiple characters with different abilities, cute graphics. My personal game of the year.

Do not touch if inventory management is your arch nemesis.

Risk of Rain 2

Chose 2 because it’s the easiest entrance to the series for modern gamers imo. Core concept is the same across all three(ish) games:

You crash land on Petrichor 5, an alien planet, in your escape pod. Make your way back to the ship!

In this run based 3rd person action rogue lite you kill monsters to earn gold, spend gold on items and drones. Progress through 5(ish) levels by defeating their boss and surviving while a teleporter charges until you reach the final boss while vibing out to one of the greatest OSTs in gaming history.

This series’ twist, one of which every roguelite needs: as time passes, the game gets harder. Regardless of your progress or power. Monsters including bosses become tougher, imbued with elements, multiplied etc.

And the item-builds can get absolutely fucking broken. As in flying through the map at break neck speeds as endless projectiles pour out of your character annihilating everything around you… until you get oneshot by an overloading jelly fish.

Most items, gameay modifiers and characters are locked behind achievements, secrets and pickups in the maps.

So tons of secrets to explore, hidden areas to find, heaps of lore to discover and read, a great diverse cast of heroes and abilities to unlock… I could go on for pages.

Get risk of rain. Any of em. They’re all fantastic.

Addendum

RoR1 is a bit older, smaller - a charming 2d sidescroller. No vertical aim, one button per ability (4), jump and arrows. Ezpz. Hella hard to beat in the beginning.

RoR2 translated that same concept fantastically into 3d, moving to a more standard over the shoulder shooter/brawler control scheme.

RoR Returns goes back to the 2d roots while combining cast, items, enemies and mechanics from both games - and adding it’s own spice.

Can anyone recommend a hunting or fishing game? I’ve been into watching outdoors videos and activities, but never been on any of those activities and pretty much can only do it virtually right now lol.

risk of rain 2, game is sooo good just pickes up the dlc survivors of the void and it adds so much new stuff, def recommend if you like third person shooters and rougelites, it’s quite hard tooo which makes wining all that more satisfying as well as endless mode as an option

I also really like risk of rain: return but that one is 2d which makes it a bit harder so it might not be for everyone

Dungeons of the endless is beutiful. A unique roguelike thats more strategic than action based, but gives your choices real weight. You will have to lose people and you will make mistakes to complete the missions, but every one of them leaves you with a sense of impact.

I get the same vibes from it as FTL, the sense of weighty choices. A great buy at $2.50

There is a new “action focused” sequel to dungeon of the endless whose name i forget because its an entirely forgetable game. It fully eliminates meaningful gameplay in trade for mediocre combat. It can be skipped entirely.

Is the action focused one from this year? ENDLESS Dungeon i think.

So sad they botched it, it seemed like such a cool evolution.

DOTE is fantastic though, I used to grind it coop with a friend. Good times!
