The road behind my house is lined with bradford pear trees. Their leaves are so big that my pool vacuum cannot suck them up. So once they start falling I need to go out every night and get out what I can with a net and a special leaf vacuum. We had strom come through this week and thankfully the winds knocked the remaining leaves out of the trees. It took an hour and a half but I got every last one out of my pool. Now I can relax until the spring when they sprout and drop their flowers.
Is there a good tree to have near a pool? I need some shade. I’m thinking of a small cold-hardy magnolia.
We have an oak tree on the other side and it provides great shade. It loses its leaves too, but they’re smaller, so they don’t clog up the vacuum. I just need to dump the skimmer baskets every couple of days.
Do you know what kind of oak it is? We have a live oak and our yard is completely full of acorns!!
Bradford pears are a menace!
They really are. If they were on my property I’d get rid of them and put in some oaks or something. They drop flowers in the spring, seeds in the summer, and leaves in the fall.
