…so, like, wearing a brimmed cap totally undermines one’s effort to get outside and catch diminishing sunlight…

I (US, Appalachia) just got back from staying with my in-laws (UK, Midlands) for two weeks. Wasn’t my first trip, I’ve even been there this time of year before, but man… yall get like 3hrs less daylight, it’s SO WINDY, and nowhere is well insulated really so you’re just moving from cold and damp to cold and damp but with a duvet so you wake up sweaty as hell AND STILL FREEZING

My fellow Americans, I’m here to say: we’re not prepared to deal with emigrating to Europe, we’ve gotta stick it out where we are, fam. Yes, I know villages are cute, and Gregg’s sausage rolls are great, and yes you get to take public transport which is refreshing, but I’m telling you, people, every heat pump in the Midlands is in use at the Nottingham Forest City Grounds.

32F here just isn’t the same as 0C there.

UK houses’ insulation is generally garbage when considering the climate they get. As a Finn I’m used to outside being cold and inside being warm, but that doesn’t happen if your house is so drafty the wind howls on the inside corners of the house.
