I went off grid in February 2020. I was unaware of the pandemic. That was such a serendipitous good decision. Given that I know whats is coming, its probably a good move again.

Like actually unaware? I’m intrigued.

Yeah, completely. I couldn’t figure out why the city buses were all free and empty. I was job searching also unaware of how bad unemployment was. But got one in march 2020 in the middle of nowhere so I moved into a camper in at the top of a mountain next to national forest. I only became aware of the pandemic once I started the job and mask mandates went in effect right when I got there. Since I already worked and lived far away from society I didn’t notice much the entire time. I never did a lockdown, I commuted and worked everyday like normal.

Considering the doomsday bunker fad that’s popular in techbro and executive circles currently, such honesty might not count against you.

That’s true only if you’re a member of that same circle.

Those who are rich are allowed to “see behind the curtain” and talk about things as they really are.

As a member of the working class you are supposed to be naive, obedient and docile. Showing that you see through the lie is intolerable.

Of course, the irony is that your interviewing manager is very likely also not a member of the elite. They are a working class person just like you, playing their scripted part in the same corporate fantasy.

Ever since I was a small child my dream has always been to uh, what do we do here? Yes, of course that’s been my dream.

Had my first big job interview in years just a few days ago. I was, at most, 50% mentally present in the moment, and the other 50% of my brain was dedicated to suppressing thoughts like this or being prepared to evoke a genuine sounding laugh so I could pass it off as a joke. Nailed the interview, though.

Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

The rules are simple:

  • The post can be a single image, an image gallery, or a link to a specific comic hosted on another site (the author’s website, for instance).
  • The comic must be a complete story.
  • If it is an external link, it must be to a specific story, not to the root of the site.
  • You may post comics from others or your own.
  • If you are posting a comic of your own, a maximum of one per week is allowed (I know, your comics are great, but this rule helps avoid spam).
  • The comic can be in any language, but if it’s not in English, OP must include an English translation in the post’s ‘body’ field (note: you don’t need to select a specific language when posting a comic).
  • Politeness.
  • Adult content is not allowed. This community aims to be fun for people of all ages.
