This is the best summary I could come up with:
Thousands of anime fans were shocked Thursday when the popular piracy site Animeflix voluntarily shut down without explaining why, TorrentFreak reported.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Animeflix,” the site’s operators told users in a Discord with 35,000 members.
Although Animeflix operators did not connect the dots for users, TorrentFreak suggested that the piracy site chose to shut down after facing “considerable legal pressure in recent months.”
Then in mid-May, rightsholders—including Netflix, Disney, Universal, Paramount, and Warner Bros.—won an injunction through the High Court of India against several piracy sites, including Animeflix.
On Reddit, some fans also complained after relying exclusively on Animeflix to keep track of where they left off on anime shows that often span hundreds of episodes.
“We hope the joy and excitement of anime continue to brighten your days through other wonderful platforms," Animeflix’s Discord message said.

shocking users
Are they shocked though? It’s getting common for piracy sites to disappear or move to different domains, there are always alternatives
No but Millenial journalism needs their shiti headline writing convention…
Say Thank you they didn’t “slam” something
I see the entire article as simply a community reminder that free anime streaming is out there for interested parties.
You know we’re right here, right?
‘Millenials are ruining headlines’ is a level of meta I’ve yet to see from that trope.
This has an implication that headlines were better before which I didn’t suggest
As they continue to make life harder for paying customers more people will stop paying
My point was that making life harder for non paying customers doesn’t negate the fact that they make life harder for paying customers.
Correct they were non paying customer who were dissatisfied with the quality of service
They voted with their feet!
Instead of being an idiot and funding your enemy, they took direct action.
They deserve our respect and support
I didnt even know this particular site existed, but who cares? I dun’ been piratin since the days of napster. I ordered shitty cds of DBZ from the internet when amazon was a fucking bookstore. besides, anyone who knows knows there’s a constant refreshed list of piracy sites. And anyone who knows knows how to search for "free media.
heck yeah" they do.
I dun’ been piratin since the days of napster.
Metallica wants to know your location
One head gets chopped off, two new ones spawn.
It’s always an issue of service. Make it more available. Adjust the price. Increase content availability. It’s not a rocket science problem, it’s just a problem of corporate greed, and law abuse
animeflix wasn’t even the best anime streaming site in my opinion. Sorry it’s gone, but there’s excellent options out there right now.
Please don’t mention any good anime sites, i don’t want it to be taken down due to too many users.
I doubt Lemmy has the traffic or searchibility to make that a realistic concern.
My anime site of choice is a UI nightmare filled with ads and banners. Super ugly and bloated. And it just happens to contain pretty much every animated show or movie in history. It’s been around for over a decade now. I’ve gotta think the shittiness is intentional to avoid suspicion.
Except if you’re Nintendo. They somehow managed to kill the emulating sphere.
Wouldn’t go that far… They knocked out yuzu’s money machine but i doubt it’s gone as an emulator and ryujinx exists
