AFAIK thats what it started as until big corporations tried to take control

There are opensource versions, I tried a selfhosted chatgpt-like one, it wasn’t quite as good…you could still tell it was a computer responding…although technically it isn’t AI

imo you can’t really open source a black box that is functionally impossible to audit
