So, I’m at gym 7 the phsycic pair. Have no idea how to deal with them. Particularly the claydol. Any tips?

Absol does really well against them cause of it’s Dark-typing and high Attack stat. Though I imagine any Dark type would work as well.

Go north of mossdeep, to shoal cave, and get an ice mon, go back to Lilycove get the blizzard tm. Get a couple x accuracies and you should be all set. Note, you may need to level up the ice mon you catch.

Why ice? Isn’t it weak to flamethrower from solrock?
