I can’t even count how many times I’ve seen perfectly good phones just become e-waste because of carrier locks. There’s been a few times I wanted to buy a used phone I saw on offer up because they were cheap but I didn’t because it’s locked to T-Mobile or Verizon. Phones are built to just become e-waste and it’s such a fuckin waste of resources. I didn’t even get into the fact the bootloader is almost always locked too. It’s so fuckin dumb
In France (it might be a European thing, others will maybe confirm), carrier phones have to be ulockable after 6 months (assuming they’re still locked to begin with) . Just ask your carrier and they’ll unlock it.
Of course it’s best to buy hardware outside of their ecosystem to begin with.
they are illegal in Australia… I remember how crap it was when it wasn’t…
Carrier locks that you can’t get unlocked are almost always because they didn’t actually pay for the phone. The “cheap phone” is subsidized by the high monthly service cost and having to be subscribed for x amount of time is part of the deal.

Most carrier locked phones can be unlocked.

Locking the bootloader is a security feature specifically to prevent people who don’t know what they’re doing from downloading malicious apps. If you do know what you’re doing it’s reasonable to say that you will buy a phone where the bootloader can be unlocked, and are capable of unlocking it which is actually a relatively straight forward process.

I already called. They won’t unlock it
The phones with an unlocked bootloader a way more expensive unless you buy something a few years old. At least from my experience looking into it.
I didn’t know I could make it not not visible lol. I think I’m gonna keep it like this for now.
