Since when has Turkey had “traditional Western allies”? They’ve been trying to play all sides since even before their independence in 1923. The biggest reason the US tries to maintain good terms is because we have two Air Force bases there.

Replace Turkey with Ukraine in NATO?

Turkey contributes the second highest number of personnel to NATO so it wouldn’t be easy to replace.

It’s also one of israel’s primary trading partners, despite its pro-Palestinian rhetoric. Hopefully this is the start of a change in its foreign policy, though I doubt any major changes will happen while Erdogan is in power.

Turkey halted its trade with israel in May of this year. Only due to internal pressure most likely — and far too late — but better than nothing, and it is another sign that the country is looking more and more towards the rising east than the declining west even under Erdogan.

Rising East? Declining west? These sound like loaded terms designated for Chinese or Russian benefit…

How will they change the acronym?

They already added some much needed vowels with Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and UAE. So SUBERECTII would be a possible acronym ?

If you’re posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
