How to install ProtonVPN in Arch Linux (CachyOS) ?
Should I follow https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/ProtonVPN ?
OR
from flathub https://flathub.org/apps/com.protonvpn.www ?
This flatpak has Unverified tag, but according to this, this flatpak is safe.
Which one should I follow ?
Asking this because I’m because I’m a bit lazy to configure OpenVPN and all that stuff. (pls don’t kill me :)
Also do you think using VPN from flatpak is a good idea?
Solved
I just installed aur mentioned in the wiki and it worked just fine. Didn’t need to install anything else in my case.
I’m on cachyos Wayland (hyprland) and none of the GUI options worked for me, including the flatpak. The AUR protonvon-cli-community worked out of the box though.
paru -S protonvpn-cli-community
protonvpn --help
Thank You.
Is it because of hyprland in any case? I’m using plasma though, so I have to try myself it seems.
Also, It’s just that I prefer more of a GUI way. (Doesn’t mean I hate terminal or anything)
I don’t know why it didn’t work. I just tried all the options until something worked and didn’t care enough to try to fix the options which didn’t work.
What’s wrong with using the aur package?
So i don’t have do step 1.1 and 1.2 ? Directly install aur package mentioned in 1.3?
Referring this https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/ProtonVPN
If I’m reading that correctly, yeah all you should need to do is install the AUR package. 1.1-1.3 in that section are different options that don’t depend on each other.

I think that particular page needs to be bit more concise.
Thank You.
Reminder that proton doesn’t give a shit about linux support (for any of their products) and you will be better served in the long run supporting a company who supports you. Not one who uses privacywashing as a sales tactic but is perfectly okay ensuring their products only work (full feature support) on corporate spyware OSes. This creates yet another barrier keeping their customers on w1ndows/mac which completely defeats the purpose of using proton services if your OS is sending everything to gemini anyways.
