Do any of you guys listen to the band Cheekface? I like them a decent amount (not as much as TMBG, though).

I’ve always found lyrically, they have some of the same vibes as They Might Be Giants (if a bit more consistently dark), the vocals somewhat remind me of the Johns (in that it wouldn’t necessarily have mainstream appeal, yet makes the song better), but the music itself is a bit different. (Funny enough, they did a cover of Ana Ng, though I’d say it is only okay.)

i’ve been obsessed with them for the entire past year, they genuinely might be the first band i’ve been more obsessed with than TMBG lmao

I am a huge cheekfreak, I got to see them in the spring. It was an awesome show. There’s definitely a connection between TMBG and Cheekface. (And that’s not just because of the Ana Ng cover.)

Cherkface shows a bunch of different influences. Some TMBG, some Talking Heads, some CAKE, and other things. I strongly suggest listening to basically everything they’ve released just to appreciate the lyrics. Some of the lines are weird jokes that only click after you’ve heard them a few times.

I enjoy Talking Heads. I only know CAKE for “The Distance”, which I do enjoy.

From what I’ve listened to of Cheekface, I really enjoyed the lyrics. Honestly, lyrics are also half of why I listen to TMBG.

Never made any connection to them and TMBG before, but Cheekface is one of my favorite slacker rock acts I’ve heard in the past few years. Really solid, witty, and self-depreciating stuff. “Plastic” is probably my favorite song by them

I love “We Need a Bigger Dumpster”, partly because of its rambling.
