I was wondering if anyone has discovered a Google Slides alternative web app where I could have, I can create presentations where in a privacy focused manner, something like proton docs.

I just don’t feel like using Google Slides even Though it’s pretty well known and I might use it. I just don’t trust Google if you know what I mean

Does it have to be online? If not then you can try LibreOffice Impress. Otherwise not sure.

Do you think it’s possible if I make impress on local host? …

I preferably want to be able to sync my slideshow document on all my devices.

When I refer to a local host, I mean self hosting My own Libre Office

Have you checked out cryptpad? It has some collaborative features and you can self host. Although it’s not as great as Libreoffice in my opinion.

Maybe, I’m not sure because I don’t really have much knowledge on self-hosting. I did find this on their website though so you could start here:

You can do that in nextcloud.

@Synther Nextcloud offers Nextcloud Office which uses Collabora Online based on LibreOffice. You can manage all sorts of documents, including slides. You can self-host it or sign up with a managed service provider.

OnlyOffice can also be integrated with NextCloud or WordPress or a bunch of other stuff. I believe it can also be used standalone. Personally, I found it’s interface much more polished and usable than Collabora, though it’s been a couple years since I compared.

@lukecooperatus That’s true, OnlyOffice can be used too. However, Nextcloud Office is better integrated with everything else in Nextcloud. Also, OnlyOffice focuses on MS compatibility while Collabora’s focus is open standards files. Both will work, depending on what you really want and care about.

If you don’t mind clutter free, simple presentations, try hack.md or cryptpad. Both supports markdown styled presentations, both are FOSS cloud applications and the format of the presentation is highly portable.

If you want to get really ambitious, try marp framework for presentations - still markdown but on steroids.

I haven’t used Cryptpad’s slides feature but I can vouch for it’s Google Docs alternative. It came in clutch late in college when I ran out of Google cloud storage!
