If you use “they” to describe a nameless group of people and you mean anyone other than The Man (That’s how they get you.), you’re probably the one who’s wrong.

Any time you would use “They say,” like “You know what they say,” is referring to the general populous

I had the thought because of a friend’s asshole husband who says things like, “Why can’t they have their own bathroom and sports?” or “how did they get two of them on the school board?” or “why do they all come to this wal-mart?”
