Is the door like that because it was damaged in the fighting, or because of general neglect?
The weeds suggest neglect.
I hope they brought enough flags 🇺🇦
What’s the goal of the invasion? Trade Ukraine’s territory against Russia’s?
That is probably one of the reasons the others are maybe:
- force Russia to redeploy troops from the front further south
- force Russia to guard the entire border seriously, hence using more soldiers
- make Putin look weak within Russia and abroad(this has a lot of consequences, mostly good for Ukraine
- take prisoners for exchange
They seized the only gas line to the EU, so the Russian simps still using the gas get nyet. Maybe plant the seeds of rebellion? If these people get cut off from the propaganda, they just might start seeing the big picture
The gas line goes through Ukraine proper. Ukraine had the ability to destroy it for the entire war and did choose not to. So clearly not the reason they went into Russia.
I’ve said this before when someone said the same thing.
Ok. You blew up the pipeline on your own land.
Now who has to deal with the massive constant fire, the possible wildfire, and the environmental clean up after the fire?
Ukraine. They did it this way to minimize the total damage. Now the pipeline is shut off, the controls are gone, and the environment is intact.
I’ve heard rumors of a planned attack against Ukraine in this region. This move prevents it.
As other said, it also makes Putin look like a clown, increase the cost of the war for Russia (they have their own refugees now who will spread the word of how Russia is invaded for the first time since ww2), allows to take prisoners and equipment, give control over a gas pipeline so they can pressure Austria and Hungary, forces Russia to move troups and equipment away from the Dombass, improves the moral in Ukraine with victories and humiliating Russia.
Strategically, the only drawback for Ukraine is that they are in a position of invading force in some way, which may make some allies or international opinions a bit uncomfortable. But the whole list of positives has the potential to change the war.
Considering that Ukraine have made it clear that they don’t want to even be there does ease discomfort though
Yes, it could only be a bad pretext for actors who didn’t want to help anyway
This somehow reminds me of stories from Byzantine military history
