Pretty cool idea by using open street maps you can download the location you want and play the game there, defend your neighborhood or loot your house.

The reviews seem decent but mention it needs a lot of tweaking as it just released on early access, like water not affecting where zombies can walk or elevation not being a thing.

Maybe this can get some more people interested in mapping

Where did it get the 3D buildings from? I thought OSM doesn’t have 3D?

You can derive them from footprint, height and basic roof type

As a kid I always wished I could play video games in my home town. Imagine games like GTA in your neighborhood. Of course we are far away from that, but it is a great idea to dynamically generate environments based on available geo data. I can also imagine this can motivate people in mapping. Gamification is a strong vehicle, look at apps like StreetComplete that have gotten really popular in a short time and play around with badges and levels etc. thanks for sharing!

Whoa I didn’t know about street complete. I’ve been doing Google streetview for a while until they killed the way I was able to contribute, this looks interesting

Too bad it’s windows only…

That seems pretty cool.

Edit: It would be even cooler if that made players want to map more in order to have more realistic gameplay scenarios.

If you want to play in your hometown and nothing is mapped it might motivate you.

…now I’m thinking of some gamers mapping strategically to min/max the game mechanics

I wonder if they pull the data straight from Overpass or if they use a cached copy on their servers.
