Here, for a while at McDonaldโs there was a ๐ called โthe 1955โ and it was the best, big pieces of onion, an special sauce, buns and big piece of beef with bacon (for Europe standards anyways) it disappeared once and came back for an encore only to be removed again and never return.
The Double Decker taco came back for like a month last year and I went to Taco Bell probably eight times once I realized it because itโs my favorite and Iโm super pissed that they wonโt just make one for me even though they have all of the ingredients, FFS.
Iโve tried. The thing thatโs hard to replicate is the beans, actually. Though Iโve mostly used canned refried beans; Iโve been meaning to get a can of whole pintos and mash them myself, and see if that helps.
Youโll probably want to start with dry beans. Canned ones are likely just going to be beans boiled in regular water. Meant to be an ingredient in something rather than the star. But if you make from scratch you can add in flavors: onion, garlic, etc.
Plenty of recipes online.
When making refried beans make sure to use pork fat of some kind. I use bacon fat.
How can no one else miss Taco Bellโs naked chicken chalupa? I loved that thing.
And the McRib is missed every time it leaves.
Ahh! Thank you so much! Iโve been trying to remember what the chalupa was called for months.
an ๐
Going crazy trying to think of what word you use for ๐ that starts with a vowel.
Oh, and also I used to always get the Santa Fe chicken Gordita at Taco Bell until it went away.
Taco Bell Choco-Taco. Yeah, the reanimated corpse of it lives on in some gas station frozen sections, but itโs a shitty product. The original one sold at Taco Bell in the 90s was god tier.
Did you ever look at the nutritional information on the original Choco Taco?
I think one taco had about 50% of your recommended daily amount of saturated fat.
I hate to tell you, but even the shitty Choco Tacos were discontinued a few years ago
Taco Bellโs caramel apple empanada and the double decker.
