It was an imposing brutalist building on a hill built as the headquarters for Burroughs Wellcome. I drove by every day for years and had friends who worked there. It was even featured in the movie Brainstorm with Christopher Walken.
Sadly, after Glaxo bought Burroughs Wellcome, the building was neglected and abandon. It was finally sold to another company under the pretence of salvaging some of it. But the entire building was demolished in 2020. The property is still vacant today.
It would have been amazing just abandoned. Seeing plants growing out of it…
Fuck GSK. I was working for them during the period where all of the remaining C-suite doctors were replaced with marketing wonks.
It was never a bastion of ethics before, but after it just became another shitty Big company buying their IP from innovators.
