Don’t know about your workflow but have you tried FreeCAD? It surely won’t be like Solidworks, but might work for you.
I also installed Bazzite and am missing several things (or at least have to do more research than I’d like to figure them out). Getting my peripherals working, CAD, system backups, pdfs that won’t open from my file server, etc. The more I get into it the more problems I uncover. It has not been the seamless transition that so many make it out to be. It has worked for the games I’ve tried though.
The mistake people make is thinking there will be a year. It could be “the decade of the Linux desktop”, and by that I mean that Apple and Microsoft have to consider them a legitimate competitor in the space because they have gained sufficient “marketshare” (if you can call it that) and OEMs have begun offering it as a discounted option across the board.
I used to have my living room gaming pc on windows and switched to linux this year and its awesome. Sunshine/moonlight are two programs that allow you to stream games from your pc to any device and it’s such a game changer!
I’ve switched a few months ago. Plenty of issues, but none of them major enough anymore to go back again. All games I play regularly apart from Assetto Corsa work, and AC should also be fixable as far as I read.
Just a few days ago I got the first racing sim working properly with my wheel. AC doesn’t start yet and Automobilista 2 does not match the irl steering wheel movements (this also happened on Windows sometimes), but ACC worked without much of an issue.
For music production I also got most of my setup working. I’m having a lot of issues with opening my old projects, but I wasn’t actively working on them anyways and with some effort I can get them back. Still some issues like the Vital synth CLAP version crashing when the window is opened and the Splice sample thingy not allowing drag and drop, but we’ll get there. For new projects it’s mostly workable.
Basically everything else I need just works. Games, photography stuff, everyday programs, and obviously my programming stuff because it was already on Linux.

Yeah I think he’s a tech guy…he just doesn’t know how to build computers (that was painful to watch).
By saying he’s not a tech guy probably just means he’s not a programmer. But with how he’s done everything he definitely has the chops to be one.
He seems to be a guy that really likes to tinker with things. And those are the kind of people that Linux, especially arch, really latches onto.
I remember when he played minecraft and made a redstone contraption to auto-feed villagers or something. He started by saying that he wasn’t good at redstone and proceeds to show something so complex that I would have to follow a tutorial to make it.
He has a degree in industrial engineering according to Wikipedia, logical thinking should come naturally to him. My high school decades ago teaches logic gates for it’s computer literacy curriculum. He might not be a programmer, but probably has exposure to these topics in general education.
I mean no offence to you. But education departments these days assume “kids have phones and iPads and must be computer geniuses” and stop teaching general computer courses. That’s a problem.
Yes but he’s obviously far more qualified. LTT was trying to give real-world impressions of someone with a technical mind but also zero experience with Linux. Yes, he did something dumb and was clearly not paying attention, but also he never should have been put in that position in the first place. Every distro probably needs to automatically force an update as part of the setup process.

He still has the 10th most subscribed channel on Youtube, him endorsing Linux is huge due to the reach he has. His video has 3.2 million views, other content creators are making their reaction videos to his video. You don’t have to like him to see how big this is for Linux.
I honestly think a lot less if Linux at this point… Not because of him, but because of comments like this, and the upvotes they have.

From what I know, pewdiepie 2025 is nothing like old pewdiepie. Used to review memes, now makes vlogs with his wife and kid while enjoying new life in Japan. Basically retired
This guy has a major following. He could be the next world leader because of brain rotted voters. I have seen kids obsessed this guy, like he could do no wrong. Now those kids are adults. That is pretty difficult to ignore for me.
I’d take him over Trump if those were the choices in an election I had a say in tbh.
Wouldn’t take him over someone with experience and sane policies, but definitely better than the MAGA folks.

I’ve never watched any of his videos. They just don’t appeal to me and never have. However, given his apparent fame, it’s good for linux.
The more people acknowledge linux’s existence, the more engagement, the more growth.
