Prices have surged as the costs of the Trump’s tariffs are passed along to consumers.

Chinese fast-fashion giant Shein hiked its prices for American customers by up to 377 percent in order to offset the costs of Donald Trump’s tariff war.

In what looks to be an early indication of how the Trump administration’s escalating tariffs will impact consumers, data Bloomberg compiled shows astronomical markups on the retailer’s most popular items, which took effect on Friday night.

The average price for Shein’s top 100 beauty and health products surged by 51% overnight, with many items more than doubling in cost. Home and kitchen goods rose by an average of 30%, while women’s clothing increased by a more modest 8%.

Good time to leave this shit die in a corner. Not advocating for Trump in any way, mind you, but this utter garbage pollutes the environment more than anything. Quality is usually abysmal so the crap ends up in a landfill sooner rather than later, and additionally all that crap needs to be shipped across the globe.

People really need to think for themselves like this.

We don’t need cheap crappy disposable clothing, I don’t care what Trump says in this regard.

In fairness, Shein and Temu can fuck right off. When the raise prices 377%, they make the worst shit China has to offer more expensive, and that’s a good thing.

Temu has a lot of overlap with standard, decent items you will find at large online retailers. They just cut out a few middlemen.

And they didn’t really raise prices, they just priced in the tariff costs so buyers aren’t surprised during the customs period.

PS this is going to hit all imports from China. It’s just going to take longer to be so obvious due to the need to empty warehouses first.

This is just pricing in the cost of tariffs for the consumer. Rather than pay a fee at customs and be surprised that your $40 order is actually $120 after tariffs and fees a week after you placed it, they estimate it and try to pay it for you. This is because the items come directly from China, cutting out the need for a leech middleman to warehouse it and take profit off the top.

Similar price hikes are coming for the things you buy. Or even larger ones. This is not limited to Shein at all. There eill just be a delay while the warehouses sell out all of their inventory.

Shein and Temu and other cheap chinese mail order goods companies only existed due to then loophole in previous tariffs for small sales. I imagine they will try to clear out stock and then call it quits soon.

I think we overestimate how much of their sales are actually to Americans. Sure, they’ll lose 20 or 30% of their market. But they’re still shipping everywhere else.

This is the plan, and the plan is for the high prices to continue forever so that the federal income tax can be repealed, (mostly for the ultra wealthy).

Trump specifically wants high prices, via tariffs, to be paid by the average American so the federal income tax can be repealed.
