I hate whoever changed this nomenclature. It’s PM and I will die on this hill.

Turns out most PMs weren’t actually private since site admins and mods could see them, so they switched to ‘direct message’ as a more honest description.

I always thought “PM” stands for “Personal Message”, which is more or less an okay description. You send a message to someone “personally”, not in-person, but close enough, I suppose.

Player Master? I don’t think this will ever catch on.

Prime Minister?

Most TLA’s are horribly overloaded (T for 2).

At first I read that as “top-level aliases” and wondered why you meant T for 2.

Then I suddenly realized the more pressing question: if there are top-level aliases, are there sub aliases? And what would they look like?

I am too afraid to search this… I thought PMs meant menstural cycles in some cultures… Like british if I am not mistaken.

I would assume that prime minister would be more common in Britain. But even if it is also something with the menstrual cycle what would be wrong with that? It’s just something some people have.

When trying to check the first result I got was actually the plus-minus sign (\pm in LaTeX) which is also cool.

I hate the implication of what it meant going from calling them PMs, for Private Messages, to being DM, for Direct Message.

I want PMs, not DMs.

But the messages aren’t private, that is why I don’t say pm anyore.

I’m old enough to remember a time when you could receive your messages instantaneously via instant messages!

Game master is better. Less Dungeon focused. Dungeon Master can also raise eyebrows when people think of Dungeon for BDSM.

Game Master is better.

Knowing D&D people, it’s usually both.

I really should find a local tabletop group.

I wrote one is better, I didn’t write that one is forbidden. When we speak we use one at a time in a sentence (see meme above) so… how both?

I would recommend GM because it’s not as heavily associated with D&D and also works better in the other language I speak.
