I installed dietpi with homeassistant. Unfortunately, this means that HA addons cannot be used. I haven’t any need for long time. I was also able to install tasmoadmin, esphome etc. under dietpi. But now I would like to use Homeassistant’s Assist. To do this I have to install Piper and whisper. Can I use the Dietpi Python environment or does it have to be done within the Homeassistant Python environment? What do i have to do?

I think a ‘Supervised’ install is the way to install HA on an existing operating system and also have Addons available.

https://github.com/home-assistant/architecture/blob/master/adr/0014-home-assistant-supervised.md

The addons should be docker containers. If you’re familiar with docker and willing to put in the time and effort, you could also manage the containers yourself.

There is more info in that github directory. A paid Nabucasa subscription might be another way to get TTS and STT services.

I think I will try it with docker. And integrate whisper and Piper with the Wyoming integration in HA.

Sure. Maybe you’ll get a few more answers. Sadly federation is still kind of broken right now here on Lemmy. I’m not sure if your post is visible from other instances or if this still takes a day.

If I remember correctly one of the hosts of the home assistant podcast sometimes talks about his docker setup. Or it was a guest, I’m not sure. I bet there are tutorials available how to set up the docker networking and the rest of the environment and connect it to HA.
