Also deadwood. That show is fucking awesome and I am not particularly fanatic about western or cowboy culture.

Deadwood was a show about Rome, rethemed to the old west because HBO already had ROME going on

Deadwood was about cops in a lawless place, not Rome. It was originally pitched as taking place in Rome, and the show ROME forced them to change the setting.

The saloons were originally collegium, idk what you are trying to correct here.

Deadwood had a retheme to the west but it wasn’t really a western or a cowboy show.

All you have to do it watch it. It does not have anything g to do with Rome. Again, the creator pitched it as taking place in Rome during the reign of Nero. Because the show is about cops in a place with no laws, not Rome.

If you mean that in the sense it’s about frontiersman not cowboys or something then ok, that’s all the same to me. But you can read Milchs interview. He very clearly says it’s about cops, and the original setting he had in mind was Rome. It’s not about Rome.
