Explanation: Berlin was, during the period of Weimar Germany, one of the LGBT capitals of the world, and the residence of the earliest and most forward-thinking LGBT-studies institute of its time.

The Nazis did not allow that to continue once they seized power.

IIRC, the very first NAZI book burning was a bunch of research about gender dysphoria etc.
